Senate Democrats Praise Use of Federal Funds to Support NH Cities and Towns

Concord, NH - Today, New Hampshire announced that a portion of the $1.25 billion in federal CARES Act funds will be used to support cities and towns.

After the announcement, Senate Election Law and Municipal Affairs Committee Chair Melanie Levesque (D-Brookline) and Vice-Chair Tom Sherman (D-Rye) released the following statements:

“In a time of crisis, New Hampshire communities have stepped up to support one another and ensure that we continue to function under extraordinary circumstances. I’m pleased to see New Hampshire is finally moving forward with the calls of House and Senate leadership to use federal CARES Act funds to support our cities and towns as they grapple with the impacts of COVID-19,” said Senate Election Law and Municipal Affairs Committee Chair Melanie Levesque (D-Brookline).

Senate Election Law and Municipal Affairs Committee Vice Chair Tom Sherman added, “Municipalities have taken on additional costs in their schools, emergency services, and additional public services. Their acts of humanity should not spark additional costs to property taxpayers.”
